The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) and the Organic Content Standard (OCS) are the two most common organic textile standards in the world. Although not all of them are exactly the same, they are mainly summarized in the following standards.
1: Cultivation Method
Has the crop been grown in fields that have been free of pesticides and chemical fertilizers for at least three years?
2: Percentage of organic fiber contained.
For GOTS, the raw material must contain at least 70% organic fiber; for OCS 100, at least 95%.
3: Spinning process
Is the production line at the spinning mill strictly separated to prevent mixing with ordinary cotton (cotton grown using pesticides or chemical fertilizers, or genetically modified cotton)?
4:Traceability
Can the entire process from raw materials to finished products be clearly traced?
Only those products that meet the criteria are granted organic certification.
Organic cotton certified by GOTS is used.
The organic cotton used by IKEUCHI ORGANIC in the “bioRe Project” is produced by REMEI in Switzerland and delivered to us through the organic cotton import company an organic cotton import company, to us through Panoco Trading Co.
Cotton grown by the bioRe project without the use of pesticides or chemical fertilizers has been audited by the Swiss certification agency “bio.inspecta” and meets the criteria for GOTS certification.
GOTS certification also assesses that environmentally and socially responsible methods are implemented at all stages of processing, production, and distribution, and that controls are in place to prevent mixing or contamination with common products. The criteria also certify that the human rights of the producers are protected by examining whether the working conditions of the people involved in the production in the fields and factories are appropriate.
We also check to ensure that organic cotton grown by the bioRe project is handed over to IKEUCHI ORGANIC through Panoco. The GOTS standards also strictly control whether or not uncertified cotton is mixed in.
IKEUCHI ORGANIC also started to obtain “OCS 100” organic certification.
IKEUCHI ORGANIC’s products are commercialized using the same production process, but in October 2021, the company’s corporate towel fabric products based on the representative model “Organic 120” were audited by ECOCERT, a French certification organization, and acquired “OCS 100” certification. The OCS certification is a certification system that certifies the quality of the final product.
OCS certification verifies the presence and quantity of organic raw materials in the final product and traces the flow of raw materials from production to the final product. OCS 100″ is a certification mark awarded to products that contain at least 95% certified organic ingredients.
The certification obtained this time certifies that the organic cotton of the bioRe Project purchased through Panoco Trading is reliably produced without mixing with other cottons in the twisted yarn process, yarn dyeing process, weaving process, and dyeing and sorting process.
