IKEUCHI ORGANIC supports “Japan Select,” a boys’ and girls’ ice hockey team representing Japan in the world.
Ice hockey has become a hot topic in Japan after the Japanese women’s national ice hockey team, nicknamed “Smile Japan,” qualified for the PyeongChang Olympics. NHL” is also a very popular major sport.
Members of Japan Select are selected from all over Japan every year and travel to Canada to play many friendly games. In the “Quebec International Pee Wee Hockey Tournament,” the world’s largest tournament for elementary school students, the team has beaten NHL junior teams and other teams, and has achieved the fourth best record in the past.

The tournament was attended by 120 teams of children between the ages of 10 and 13 from 15 countries around the world. In the 2015 tournament, the first time they participated, they were the only team out of 120 to receive a special “Best Team Spirit Award” for making history in the tournament, as they were sent off with a standing ovation by over 12,000 spectators, despite losing in the semi-finals.
Japan Select’s success was reported daily in the local media, and their dedication and spirit of courtesy attracted local Quebecers. The children who participated in the program have grown through various experiences, not limited to ice hockey, such as homestays and cross-cultural exchanges with children from local teams. The children are now planning to participate in other age groups’ tournaments in Europe as well as in North America, and are expected to play more on the world stage.
IKEUCHI ORGANIC will continue to challenge the world stage with “Japan Select,” children who are expected to play an active role in the world.
